In today’s complex and ever-changing business and social environment, emotions have an undeniable impact on performance, leadership, and culture. Understanding and harnessing this emotional aspect of business and relationships is essential for organisations looking to thrive. That’s why we’re excited to introduce our Emotional Culture Quadrant (ECQ) model – a comprehensive framework designed to help leaders cultivate a thriving emotional culture across all levels of their organisation.

The ECQ model breaks down into four key areas:

  1. Emotional Culture Crafting – Defining how your people feel (or should be feeling) at work to intentionally manage & influence the emotional culture that drives engagement, teamwork and connection.
  2. Emotional Leadership Development – Developing leaders who can effectively build & establish the emotions needed to drive performance and foster strong, connected teams.
  3. Emotional Change Strategy – Navigating change through recognising & shaping emotions, ensuring that transitions are more inclusive and empathetic.
  4. Emotional Stakeholder EngagementDesigning & embedding emotions into experiences that resonate with the people you serve, building stronger relationships and creating lasting impacts.

At the heart of this model is what we call Emotional Performance.

Emotional Performance

Your organisational culture is never devoid of emotions; it thrives on the collective emotions that are either expressed or suppressed. These emotions play a crucial role in shaping how people feel, act, and perform within your environment.

Mastering emotions isn’t about maintaining constant control over them. Instead, it’s about developing both individual and collective emotion skills – learning how to express what we need to feel in order to succeed in our work and lives.

True emotional mastery is not about suppressing how we feel or how our people and stakeholders feel. It’s about embracing, understanding, and managing our emotions in a way that enhances the overall performance. By doing this, we create healthier, more productive cultures where people are valued, motivated, and feel free to express themselves.

Emotional performance is about empowering your people and organisation to harness their emotions, leading to stronger connections, higher engagement, and more sustainable success.

By working across these four quadrants, the ECQ model helps leaders craft cultures that are not only emotionally intelligent but also emotionally strategic, elevating both personal and collective performance.
